Maggie and Hero, by Margaret O'Brien (mostly known as Maggie O'Brien) is the first children's book published by Fineday Books. The book is an attempt to stimulate interest in the only two recognized breed dogs which originated in Canada and which have become valued family friends and companions worldwide. First, the Newfoundland dog, the wonderful giant, which was recognized as a breed in Newfoundland in the 18th century (over 200 years ago). Second, the Newfoundland's younger cousin the smaller Labrador dog, a number of which were was exported from St. John's in the 19th century to England, where they were bred to become the Labrador retriever.
